Acupuncture has been practised for over 3000 years as part of Traditional Chinese Medicine along with herbal therapy.
Modern scientific medicine has been investigating acupuncture via research trials and is finding that it can provide relief as effective as some drugs for many varied conditions.
Research continues to investigate the mechanisms by which acupuncture is thought to work.
Western medical acupuncture uses knowledge of pathways in the nervous system to stimulate release of neurally mediated chemicals in appropriate areas of the body. These relieve pain and symptoms and provide a feeling of well-being.
The traditional Chinese system diagnoses and treats through the concepts of meridians and Qi energy balance linked to Yin-Yang theory.
Body Prime takes into account both theories when a client consults for acupuncture treatment.
Consultation for acupuncture involves taking a medical history and then a clinical examination to provide the appropriate information for treatment.
Fine, disposable needles are applied that create a sensation of De-Qi thought to be an indication of movement of Qi energy. Needles are usually retained for 20 – 30 minutes and are then painlessly removed. Post acupuncture advice is given, as the effects can be more wide reaching than the condition treated.
